Lady Agnes teams up with Boris and P&G to kick off Capital Clean-Up
The campaign has been renamed the 'P&G Capital Clean-up' and will feature a series of events hosted between March and June across the city in the run-up to the London 2012 Olympic Games. Mayor Johnson hopes they will improve Londoners' "quality of life".
Upstairs Downstairs actress Keeley Hawes has been named P&G's Capital Clean-up ambassador in support of the campaign. She said that as a Londoner, the activity gave the city a sense of "community pride".

BBC Axe Upstairs Downstairs

Costume drama Upstairs Downstairs has been axed, the BBC has confirmed. The revival of the hit 1970s series, starring Keeley Hawes and Alex Kingston, has seen ratings slump from 8.8 million viewers when it relaunched in 2010 to 5.22 million for the last episode of the second series, which aired last month.
A BBC spokesperson said: "From Call the Midwife to Bird Song and The
Syndicate, 2012 has been a great year for Original British Drama on BBC1 but at this stage there are no plans for Upstairs Downstairs to return".
Neil Jackson who played chauffeur Harry Spargo confirmed reports the show had been axed on Twitter. He said: "Such a shame. I have just heard that the BBC will not be making any more Upstairs Downstairs. I loved the show and will miss... greatly".
A petition has been set up on Twitter and Facebook campaigning for BBC bosses to change their minds and commission a third series.

Pass the smelling salts, Hudson! The lesbian bedroom scenes that would NEVER have appeared in the original Upstairs Downstairs
Alex Kingston and Emilia Fox
It would never have happened in the time of strait-laced Edwardian butler Mr Hudson from the original Upstairs
Downstairs. But extra-marital lesbian scenes will feature in next Sunday’s episode of the BBC show in a bid to boost ratings. Doctor Who star Alex Kingston and Silent Witness actress Emilia Fox will play female lovers who scandalise 165 Eaton Place. The two women are shown sharing a passionate kiss, and in another scene they are in bed together. In one erotically charged moment, Kingston’s character, the archaeologist Dr Blanch Mottershead, slowly and provocatively traces her finger down the front of Fox’s body. She tells her: ‘There is a visceral thrill when you stumble on a find, whether you roll away a stone and discover a ransacked tomb or dredge the sands and bring up the shattered cup.’The controversial storyline is part of an attempt by the BBC to sex up the show so it can compete with its ITV costume drama rival Downton Abbey, which has so far proved a bigger ratings hit.

Claire Foy (Lady Persie) in New BBC2 Drama - White Heat
White Heat is a new six-part drama series about the interwoven lives, loves and betrayals of seven characters whose relationships are forged in the white heat of the Sixties through to present day, written for BBC Two by award-winning writer Paula Milne...... Starts on BBC2 - 8th March
Racy upstairs, even racier downstairs: New faces, fresh scandal and lashings of romance... behind the scenes on the saucy new series

Looking every inch the elegant society hostess she is, Lady Agnes Holland walks into the imposing hallway of 165 Eaton Place to welcome her visitor, handsome American businessman Caspar Landry. Then – disaster! – she brushes against a table and ladders her stocking.
There’s the whisper of silk on silk as she raises the hem of her clinging dress to inspect the damage. It’s an electric moment as Agnes and
Caspar exchange glances, perhaps holding one another’s gaze for a nanosecond longer than is necessary. Then, with murmured apologies and a shy smile she rushes upstairs to change.
Blanche, the aunt of her husband, Sir Hallam Holland, sees the way they looked at one another and later teases Agnes for being so obviously attracted to Caspar. Is this what the new series of Upstairs Downstairs holds? An affair for Lady Agnes as her diplomat husband neglects her while he frantically works on peace negotiations to avert the looming war? ‘They’re drifting apart,’ says Keeley Hawes, who plays Lady Agnes. ‘She becomes disillusioned with marriage, and boredom sets in. She also starts to mistrust him. It should be very sad, because they were the perfect couple, but every marriage has its ups and downs, and I think people will be able to relate to what’s going on.’
